Now that you have insights about POETRY and what it is made up of, let's start on how to understand those strange words that defeat you from winning the precious "UNDERSTANDING".
BUT...
BUT...
Grab your Swordpen and walk on the word path below. GOOD LUCK~!
STEP 1Try to understand poetry.
Poetry is different from other types of writing, for example a novel, for several reasons. It talks about your heart and your feelings. Recognize that. It also uses language in an unusual way, and may incorporate unusual words. STEP 3Research a little about the author.
When did he/she write the poem and under what circumstances? This may help you appreciate the origin of the poem. Use the available resources such as the Internet, your teacher or discussion with your mates.

STEP 2Read a poem aloud more than once.
Listen to the sound of it, like music. When you read it aloud, your use all your senses at once. This would ease the process of understanding the mood, tone and message of the poem. STEP 4Decide if the poet is trying to write a sad, happy, mad, exciting, anxious, etc. poem?
If it's a sad poem, let it sink into your heart. Try to feel the emotion that's being written about.
